A.V.A. Ballet Theatre goes under the sea with “The Little Mermaid” at the Pioneer Center: featuring the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra

Ballet Theatre opens with the classic ballet The Little Mermaid on May 3 and 4 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, The Little Mermaid is the captivating story of the beautiful mermaid and her dreams of becoming a human. A dashing prince, a sea witch, crabs, and jovial eels have starring roles in this fantasy adventure. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra with Laura Jackson will perform the exciting score.

Outstanding guest principal dancers who have danced with the Idaho Ballet and Salt Lake City’s Utah Ballet will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre.

The Saturday, May 3 performance will be held at 8 p.m., and the Sunday, May 4 performance will be at 2 p.m. Ticket prices for adults are $25 to $45. Ticket prices for children 12-and-under and seniors 65-and-older are $20 to $40. For tickets call the Pioneer Center at 1-866-553-6605 or on-line at pioneercenter.com. Box office hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the resident ballet company of the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. They are northern Nevada’s largest company under the instruction of a professional faculty with years of performing experience in renowned metropolitan ballet and production companies across the United States and Europe.
