SUBMITTED NEWS — Sierra School of Performing Arts presents Foolish Mortals: A Shakespearean Look at Duplicity, Mistaken Identity and the Madness of Love March 7-9, 2014 at the Laxalt Auditorium (Warren Nelson Building) 401 W. Second St in Reno. Foolish Mortals will be an entertaining one-hour look at life and love through the works of William Shakespeare.
This production is perfect either as an introduction to Shakespeare’s works or for the Shakespeare enthusiast. As an instructor for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival InterACT program, our Director, Michelle Calhoun has seen firsthand how difficult it can be for students to comprehend the language, humor and strength of Shakespeare’s writings. Shakespeare’s works, although containing language that may be unfamiliar, should be active, vibrant—and fun! Our goal for Foolish Mortals is to present a series of scenes, monologues and sonnets that are unified in central themes, but still entertaining to watch. Narration provides educational tidbits about each scene presented and, in some cases, about Shakespeare’s life and times. The result is exciting, potentially thought-provoking and sometimes downright silly.
Performances will be one weekend only; March 7th and 8th at 7:30pm and March 9th at 2pm. Tickets for those performances are $10.00 and are available at www.sierraschoolofperformingarts.org.
