Everything orchids at Moana Nursery Feb. 7-9

moana-show-024-300x200-7657010-9387571Members of the Orchid Society of Northern Nevada (OSNN) will be exhibiting some of their rare plants at a show at Moana Nursery Friday through Sunday, Feb. 7-9. They will also have for sale an intriguing selection of orchids for beginners and collectors and will be available to answer questions about orchids and the Orchid Society of Northern Nevada throughout the show.

Valentine’s Day is just a week after the show, so this is a perfect opportunity to purchase an orchid or two from the OSNN (their annual fundraiser) and all your orchid supplies from Moana Nursery to be ready for spring blooms.

The show will be in the Moana Lane Garden Center at the following times:

  • Friday, Feb. 7: 9 a.m.– 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 8: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 9: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Free orchid seminars will be held in the Landscape and Design Center Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, Feb. 8, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.: Orchids 101

Yes, you can grow orchids in northern Nevada! Sean Abbott, PhD, OSNN member and former president, will show you how easy it is to have gorgeous blooming orchids. With a few simple tips, you will be able to grow orchids that bloom for months. The hardest thing about orchids is choosing a color! You don’t want to miss this always popular seminar.

Saturday, Feb. 8, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.: The Art of Repotting Orchids
Repeats Sunday, Feb. 9, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

Joanne Gerow, American Orchid Society (AOS) representative, AOS student judge and OSNN member, will demonstrate the proper way to repot orchids and share tips for successful transplanting. Bring your orchid for professional repotting; a $5.00 per plant charge for supplies applies.
