MINDEN, Nev. — Candy Cane Lane, the Carson Valley Inn’s outdoor drive-through Christmas light display, will be open for nightly viewing starting Thanksgiving weekend. The light display in Minden is one of many holiday activities scheduled in early December in the Carson Valley; Carson Valley Inn is offering Christmas Kickoff Weekend Hotel Package Dec. 5, 6 and 7.

Candy Cane Lane features thousands of Christmas lights and a variety of scenes depicting traditional characters getting ready for and enjoying the holiday. Accompanying music can be heard by tuning car radios to 89.9-FM. Pull into the Carson Valley Inn parking lot at the RV entrance — between the Carson Valley Market and the Carson Valley Inn’s electronic sign.

Candy Cane Lane is one of the many holiday displays and events sponsored annually by Carson Valley towns and other entities. Among the events:

  • Gardnerville Christmas tree lighting and festivities, Dec. 5 at Heritage Park
  • Caroling, tree lighting and a visit from Santa, Dec. 6 in Genoa
  • Minden Gazebo tree lighting and festivities, Dec. 6 in downtown Minden and Minden Park
  • Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 7 at Genoa Town Hall
  • Annual Parade of Lights, Dec. 7 in downtown Minden

Carson Valley Inn offers a $125-per-person, double occupancy Christmas Kickoff Weekend Hotel Package Dec. 5, 6 and 7. The offer includes a $100 dining gift card for use in CV Steak, Katie’s and Job’s Perk; and two tickets to the Toccata Chorus & Orchestra Concert, Dec. 6 at St. Gall’s Church. Details: 775-783-6629.

The Carson Valley Inn is on U.S. 395 in Minden, Nev., near the start of state Route 88, 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe’s south shore and 45 minutes south of Reno. The recently remodeled property includes a casino, sports and race book, 149-room hotel, 74-room motor lodge, 59-site RV park and a convenience store with Shell gas and diesel fuel. There also are banquet and meeting rooms and services plus three dining facilities: CV Steak, the Inn’s Nevada-style steakhouse featuring steaks, seafood, pasta dishes and more; Katie’s, offering 24-hour dining; and Job’s Perk, for coffee drinks, pastries and sundries.
