SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Michael Heikka, Battalion Chief, Sierra Fire Protection District, announced today that a prescribed burn is planned for Davis Creek Park. This prescribed burn is planned to reduce hazardous fuels on Washoe County Parks and Open Space land that potentially threaten the communities of West Washoe Valley. The goal of this project is to provide a fuel break and better access for firefighting equipment and personnel to defend the public and structures from the threat of wildfires.

The prescribed burn is scheduled to start on Monday February 13, 2012, in anticipation of a sufficient level of precipitation this weekend and Monday to create a safe environment for burning, and will last one to two days. Slash piles will be burned within Davis Creek Park located in West Washoe Valley.

If the area receives insufficient moisture from expected storm systems between now and Monday, this burn may be delayed until the next safe opportunity arises.
