Broadway greats from 50s to present featured

More than 40 actors return to the stage for the 6th annual production of “Broadway Bits” by the Sierra School of Performing Arts.  Incorporating an underlying theme of Sing Happy, the local thespians, singers and actors will showcase more than 20 of Broadway’s greatest songs originating from the 50s through contemporary musicals.

Songstress Cindy Sabatini will play Elpheba from “Wicked” and expands her role with “Broadway Bits” as Vocal Director.  Other local favorites include Rick Haney and Marti Creveling who both just finished roles in “Annie” and who appeared in “Broadway Bits” last year.

The show runs Feb. 3, 4, 10 & 11, 2012, at 7:30 PM with matinees February 4 & 12 at 2 PM.  “Broadway Bits” returns to the Redfield Proscenium Theater on the campus of University of Nevada/Reno.

The production is under the direction of Artistic Director and SSPA Board Member, Janet Lazarus.  Judy Davis Rounds and Denise Norton return as Co-Production Managers.  Music is under the direction of Bill Quinby, choreography by Padma Rothchild with Nora Beauchamp assisting.

SPPA will sponsor 2 special matinees on Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 AM and 12 noon for students and educators. Tickets cost $ 5.00 and can be secured by contacting SSPA.

“Broadway Bits” is made possible in part by public funding for the arts through the Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, The National Endowment for the Arts, and the City of Reno.  This program is also supported by the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation.

Sierra School of the Performing Arts is a Nevada-based 501c(3) non-profit organization which aims to provide all aspects of the performing arts to the widest possible audiences through productions, camps, workshops and volunteer opportunities.  The Board of Directors of SSPA is composed of volunteers from the arts, public safety, medical, business and media professions.

The production is licensed by ASCAP/BMI.
