University of Nevada, Reno awards nearly 1,550 degrees this fall; new choral director to conduct musicians as they entertain graduates and guests prior to ceremony

The University of Nevada, Reno invites media to our December Commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10 at Lawlor Events Center on campus.

The University’s December Commencement will confer 1,547 degrees and certificates; 1,101 bachelor’s degrees and 446 advanced degrees or certificates (master’s and doctoral degrees and education specialist certificates) will be awarded.

  • Processional time: The processional will begin at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10 at Lawlor Events Center. Paul Torkelson, new director of choral activities at the University and an esteemed choral conductor and educator, will conduct members from the symphonic choir and chamber chorale as they perform before the ceremony.
  • Press badges and media relations: If you plan to attend, please call Natalie Savidge at 775-336-9923 to obtain a press badge or if you need other assistance.
  • Parking for media: Media parking is available in the first row of the Lawlor Events Center’s parking meters, south of the building. Public parking is available in the West Stadium Parking Complex, directly north of Lawlor Events Center.
  • Media-staging area: A media-staging area with mult-box access will be available, stage left, near the podium.
