Student-named and owned Nevada Wolf Shop offers discounts Tuesday, Dec. 6, on Wolf Pack gear and holiday gifts
The Nevada Wolf Pack football team will have its final regular-season game of the year this Saturday, Dec. 3, as they play the Idaho Vandals– and that means the final Touchdown Tuesday of the year will offer great discounts toward holiday shopping at the University of Nevada, Reno campus on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Touchdown Tuesdays, occurring every Tuesday after a Nevada football game, gives a 5 percent discount on Nevada Wolf Pack gear and gifts, as well as general books, for every touchdown scored by the Wolf Pack, up to 40 percent–for people with a membership card, there is an additional 5 percent discount.
Unlike previous Touchdown Tuesdays, this one will not be hosted by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) Bookstore. The formerly named ASUN Bookstore has recently changed its name to the “Nevada Wolf Shop” in order to demonstrate the fact that the store is more than just a bookstore. The student-owned store, which held the previous name since 1951, carries everything from organic food to baby clothes to iPads to Christmas ornaments–along with textbooks, Nevada apparel and more.
“The name ‘ASUN Bookstore’ made it feel like our store only sells books to students,” said ASUN President Casey Stiteler. “The Nevada Wolf Shop is really a name that we hope will make students and the local community think, ‘I need a new Nevada t-shirt, I’ll go to the Wolf Shop.’”
The Associated Students of the University of Nevada, the University’s undergraduate student government, owns the Nevada Wolf Shop, and supports student scholarships, clubs, organizations, events and activities.
“This store belongs to the students of the University of Nevada, Reno and its profits are used to support the students,” Stiteler said. “That’s why, when we renamed the store, we knew it should be a student to choose the new name.”
ASUN held a student competition to design a logo and to create a name and tagline for the store. The winning entry from Adonis Palustre, an international affairs senior at the University, won an iPad for his design.
Marie Stewart, director of Nevada Wolf Shop, thinks the new name and design are a positive change for the store.
“Despite the name change, the core mission will stay the same,” Stewart said. “We will continue to provide goods and services essential to the educational process in a timely and cost-effective fashion.”
The Nevada Wolf Shop currently expects its new signs to be installed on the storefront by Dec. 7.
