CARSON CITY — To reduce forest fuels, the Carson Ranger District will begin mowing and mulching brush and small trees in the Job’s Peak Project area off of Foothill Road in Douglas County, Nevada south of Kingsbury Grade to the California state line, starting November 1, 2011, through January 1, 2012, weather permitting.
“Mechanical treatment is an effective tool in removing shrubs and woody debris that has become a fire hazard, reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire and risk to firefighters in the event of a large fire,” said Steve Howell, District Fuels Specialist. This treatment is also a cost effective way of reducing hazardous fuels where prescribed fire and other treatments are not feasible.
Residents and visitors on the Fay-Luther and Jobs Peak Ranch Trails can expect to see equipment clearing brush and small trees on the National Forest. These trails may be closed for short periods of time for public safety when the equipment is working closely near the trail. Updates will be posted at the trailheads. Treatment activity will be accomplished during weather conditions that would minimize impacts on the soil.
