Three candidates competing for Nevada’s 2nd U.S. House Congressional District seat, left open following the appointment of Dean Heller to the U.S. Senate, will debate in Reno at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the city’s California Building.

The debate, sponsored by the Truckee Meadows Post 3819 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be moderated by KRNV’s award-winning news anchor Joe Hart. Candidates included will be Democrat Kate Marshall, Republican Mark Amodei and Independent American Party candidate Tim Fasano. A panel of respected journalists, representing news organizations throughout the state, will oversee the debate.

“We want to give the candidates an equal opportunity to express their views and platforms,” said William Maltman, commander of the VFW post. “It is an effort to get people more involved in the election process and give them a chance to hear the candidates’ views and opinions.”

KRNV News 4 and News Talk KKFT 99.1 FM Fox News Radio will broadcast the debate live beginning at 7 p.m.

The event is free for attendees. Tickets will be available starting Aug. 12 at the individual election offices of each candidate. Please contact participating candidates for ticket information.

The City of Reno’s California Building is located in Idlewild Park along the Truckee River at 75 Cowan Drive, Reno.
