blm_logo-300x261-4376777-6497233Ely, Nev. – The Triple B Complex wild horse gather scheduled to begin on or about July 7 has been delayed until July 16, 2011.  On June 29, 2011, The Cloud Foundation, Craig Downer and Lorna Moffat filed a complaint in U.S. District Court seeking declaratory and injunctive relief under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.  A hearing on the Plaintiffs’ motion to enjoin the gather is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2011.

The BLM’s Elko District, Wells Field Office and BLM Ely District, Egan Field Office propose to gather and remove approximately 1,726 excess wild horses from in and around the Triple B, Maverick-Medicine and Antelope Valley Herd Management Areas and the Cherry Springs Wild Horse Territory located approximately 30 miles northwest of Ely and 70 miles southeast of Elko, Nev.  Removal of the excess wild horses is necessary to prevent degradation of rangeland resources and to ensure sufficient forage and water is available for the wild horse population.

For more information, contact Chris Hanefeld, BLM Ely District public affairs specialist, at (775) 289-1842 or [email protected].
