SUBMITTED RELEASE

washoedems-300x98-6000985-5585329Just days after Rep. Shelley Berkley announced her intention to run for John Ensign’s Senate seat, the Republican Party has devised a way to go around the democratic process by convincing scandal-ridden Ensign to vacate his seat before the end of the term.

“It’s a sad day for democracy in Nevada when voters are denied the chance to vote to express their views on candidates to better our state and country.” said Shaun Gray, executive director of the Democratic Party of Washoe County (WashoeDEMS).

“What’s more,” continued Gray, “is that Gov. Brian Sandoval continues to show how out of touch he is with the people of Nevada by appointing someone (Dean Heller) who has voted to balance the country’s budget on the backs of seniors and to cut off health care to 18,000 Washoe County residents.”

Sandoval has appointed Rep. Dean Heller, the GOP favorite in the 2012 Senate race.

“Time and time again, Dean Heller has supported issues devastating to the people of Washoe County,” said Dorie Guy, WashoeDEMS chair. “And how does Gov. Sandoval react to that?” she asked. “By promoting him to a higher office — it’s the typical good ol’ boys game.”
