Reno fire fighters have offered the same concessions accepted by the city from the police. The fire fighter’s concession package saves fire fighter jobs at no additional cost to the city.
This is the third concession our employee group has given the city in the past 18 months. We have worked with the city to achieve overtime and cost of living adjustment (COLA) savings. When combined with the savings realized through voluntary implementation of straight trade staffing practices, Reno Fire Fighters Association has contributed over 4.3 million dollars to help the city balance their budget in the past year.
“We looked at the new demands made by the council and those demands fall outside what we can legally consider during current contract negotiations. As always we are committed to working swiftly and diligently towards resolving these issues permanently in the proper forum,” said Association President Dennis Jacobsen.
“It is now up to the city council to accept our concession offer to save jobs, or reject the offer as it is written. We ask the city council to approve our concessions, as they have with other bargaining units, to provide our citizens with the level of public safety that they deserve.”

The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 731 membership includes fire fighters, fire prevention personnel, safety/training personnel and fire mechanics, as well as more than 60 active retirees. The Reno Fire Fighters protect life and property in the city of Reno and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and has been organized for more than 120 years.
