SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health, the region’s leader in heart care, announced the opening of two new vascular suites, an interventional diagnostic room and a hybrid operating room (OR), both of which will reduce patient waiting time and improve patient outcomes.

The new hybrid OR combines the best qualities of a traditional OR with x-ray and imaging providing significant benefits to both physicians and patients. The dual nature of the OR will result in efficiencies that will improve safety. Physicians will have newer equipment, better visualization capabilities and greater patient capacity; all of which amounts to safer, faster procedures.

Physicians provided input into the design and the equipment purchased. The suites accommodate standard OR equipment and the full array of high-tech imaging technology needed for both minimally invasive and complex surgeries. The new interventional vascular diagnostic room will allow any vascular medical procedure where access to inner organs or other tissue is done via needle-puncture of the skin, rather than by using an “open” approach where inner organs or tissue are exposed. This room will provide for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.

These rooms will also allow Renown to support growth in endovascular procedures for the next 10 years.

Editorial: Downtown desperation

The lipstick-on-a-pig comment gets uttered not infrequently when it comes to the rabid tenor adopted by local electeds and their boosters when they speak of downtown Reno.
