They are united in making this investment in the economy which will put Nevadans back to work and stimulate $3.6 billion in economic activity. They urge the Legislature to take actions outlined in the 100,000 Nevada Jobs Report .
WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 9
12:30 p.m.–200-worker gathering at Legislative Building
1 p.m.–Committee Hearing Room 2134, 2nd Floor Legislative Building
WHERE: Nevada Legislature, Carson City
WHY: From 1997 to 2007, the construction industry was an economic stimulant adding 39,100 jobs in Las Vegas and 8,900 in the Reno-Sparks area, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. But over the last three years, construction employment is down 54,900 jobs in Las Vegas and 12,000 in Reno-Sparks.
During the past year, a number of business, professional and labor groups based in Nevada have come together to form the Building Jobs Coalition. Working with key legislators, the coalition developed strategies to create jobs that the 2011 Legislature will be asked to consider. These strategies are outlined in the group’s website. The first few pages of the white paper give a brief overview of suggestions to put Nevadans back to work over the next critical 6 to 18 months. If adopted, these suggestions will accelerate and strengthen our state’s recovery. The full report details how we can create a more diverse and sustainable economic model to broaden Nevada’s economy over the next two decades.
