SUBMITTED RELEASE FROM RORY 2010
After months of hiding, Brian Sandoval dropped a hint today on how he would balance the state budget. He would do it by forcing local government to raise taxes.
Sandoval revealed his secret plan to the Las Vegas Sun today. That plan is simply to pass the buck to local government, forcing property tax hikes that would take money from Nevada homeowners at a time of record home foreclosures and families already underwater in their mortgages.
“This is just plain wrong. It’s bad public policy, it’s passing the buck, it’s totally irresponsible and it demonstrates what a fiscal disaster Brian Sandoval’s approach to the budget crisis would be,” Rory Reid said. “He’s simply passing the buck and refusing to take any responsibility for doing what a governor does – offering a budget proposal.”
“First he proposed cutting a half billion from education. Now he proposes accounting gimmicks so he can duck responsibility,” said Mike Trask, spokesman for Rory 2010. “This is the worst kind of fuzzy math and a total failure of leadership.”
These revelations come directly from Sandoval, the same guy who promised voters “straight talk” just last week, during a debate broadcast statewide. Instead, he’s offering a budget plan focused entirely on refusing to take action or responsibility. It all comes after months of Sandoval promising a budget plan – and subsequently simply not providing one.
Sandoval also has no plan to address job creation, economic development, green energy, ethics reform or education – beyond proposing to cut $533 million from schools.
Rory Reid is the only candidate for governor to offer solutions for today and a plan for Nevada’s future success – supporting strong schools for a stronger economy. For more information about his campaign or to download his plans, visit Rory2010.com.
