SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
LAS VEGAS–Joe Heck, republican candidate for Congress, reportedly accepted a $10,000 campaign contribution from the scandal-plagued Sen. John Ensign’s politician action committee.
Ensign’s PAC made the contribution before news broke that Ensign was being investigated by the FBI in connection with his extra-marital relationship with a campaign staffer who was married to a high-ranking federal office staffer, and a subsequent $96,000 payment from Ensign’s parents to the woman’s family. Ensign is also under investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee following news of the affair.
Heck is the only federal candidate to receive a contribution from Ensign this cycle.
“We call on Joe Heck to immediately return the $10,000 he has received from Sen. Ensign’s political action committee,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director with the Nevada State Democratic Party. “While most Republicans nationally and in Nevada have distanced themselves from Ensign following revelations of the FBI investigation into his affairs, Joe Heck has proven his poor judgment once again by accepting this donation.”
