LOVELOCK, Nev. – It’s eternal—love that is, and even more so when it’s locked at Lovers Lock Plaza in Lovelock, Nev., home to the nation’s only love-locking “eternal” chain.  This Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. lovers are invited to join other couples for the Plaza’s 4th Lovers Lock Anniversary Celebration with a wedding and vow renewal ceremony followed by love-locking to serve as an everlasting reminder.  Since its inception in 2006, lovers from around the globe have come to Lovelock to symbolically bind their love as part of an age old Chinese custom revised into Nevada tradition.

“Valentine’s Day is a special time in Lovelock, although love is alive every day at Lovers Lock Plaza,” said Celeste Hamilton, chair of the Greater Pershing Partnership.  “Over the course of four years we’ve seen more than 1,500 couples, husbands and wives, newlyweds, grandparents and grandkids, friends, pet owners and others come to Lovelock to lock their love at Lovers Lock Plaza. It’s a romantic gesture that’s both unusual and everlasting.”

Lovelock’s “Lock Your Love” tradition is borrowed from China, where for decades lovers have placed a lock on an “endless chain” along the Great Wall in the Yellow Mountains and elsewhere.  The love-locking tradition is also alive in Italy, with lovers affixing locks to the Ponte Vecchio and Ponte Milvio and throwing the keys into the Arno and Tiber rivers.

Lovers are invited to join in this special Christian-based ceremony to tie the knot and lock their love at Lovers Lock Plaza.  Couples looking to legally marry at the ceremony will need to secure a State of Nevada marriage license prior to the ceremony.

Couples can RSVP for the celebration by contacting the Greater Pershing Partnership at 775-273-7213 or [email protected]. For more information on Lovers Lock Plaza or Lovelock, visit online at www.LoversLock.com.

Lovers Lock Plaza is located in the heart of Lovelock adjacent to the Pershing County Courthouse. The peaceful location in the heart of town is easily accessible several blocks north of Interstate 80 and just 93 miles northeast of Reno, Nev.  Businesses in the community support the love-locking tradition by selling locks that can also be engraved locally with lovers’ names or a special message.  Lovers are encouraged to bring their own locks as a way to personalize the experience.

The city of Lovelock is located off Interstate 80 in central Nevada and serves as the gateway to “Nevada’s Cowboy Country.”  With a population of just over 2,300, the town is home to numerous historical sites and unique locations including Lovers Lock Plaza, the nation’s only love-locking destination.  Lovelock also serves as a base camp for adventure and activities including fishing, hunting, boating, hiking and geo-caching.
