SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Northern Nevada beer lovers can say “Gimme an Icky” at more than 40 local grocery store, craft beer and wine retailers and retrieve a six pack of the award-winning Ichthyosaur India Pale Ale to call their own!

Named after Nevada’s official state fossil, Icky is made in the India Pale Ale style accented by a blast of Cascade hops. (A.B.V., 6.4 percent). It is one of the original pours when Great Basin Brewing Co. opened its doors in 1993 at Victorian Square in Sparks, NV. Icky garnered a silver medal at the 2006 World Beer Championships and people really like it, too.

The Northern Nevada office of Southern Wine & Spirits Co. of America is distributing the popular thirst quencher to retail markets after already catering to the 178 bars, restaurants and discerning tasting rooms that carry Icky on tap.

“Icky is a craft beer that has a reputation as an excellent product with a tremendously loyal following,” said Bruce O’Brien, Director of Beer for Southern Wines in Northern Nevada. “It’s been out here for more than 17 years; people know it and love it.”

Great Basin Co-owner and brewmaster Tom Young said the brewery crew was able to increase brewing capacity and build a small bottling line at the Reno brewing outpost to keep up with the volume needed for local retail distribution.

“Icky is our most popular beer and a popular call at local pubs and restaurants,” Young said. “This bottling will make it more convenient to say ‘Gimme an Icky.’”

Young said that once a bottling capacity is determined without sacrificing quality, Great Basin beer in a bottle may venture beyond the local beer landscape

Icky is available on-premise at the Sparks and Reno outlets for $7.99 a six pack, $27.99 for a case or $1.99 for a single, 12-ounce bottle.

About the Ichthyosaur

The Ichthyosaur is Nevada’s State Fossil (NRS 235.080) and was found in Berlin, NV, east of the desert metropolis of Gabbs, NV. Nevada is the only state to possess a complete skeleton –approximately 55-feet long – of this extinct marine reptile. Ichthyosaur (a name meaning “fish lizards”) were predatory reptiles that filled the same ecological niche – and quite resembled in body – the dolphin of today only much larger. They plied the pluvial waters of ancient (late Pleistocene) Lake Lahontan which has receded to reveal today’s Great Basin; a topography that dominates Nevada land form and the first-name in Nevada craft beer.
