Northern Nevada Public Health has issued an air quality advisory due to ongoing wildfires in Northern California. The Park Fire continues to grow, impacting residents in Central Washoe County, and the Crozier Fire, northeast of Placerville, is spreading rapidly, with smoke affecting Incline Village, Washoe Valley and the Reno area.

Smoke may reach “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” levels at times as the fires burn through the weekend. Residents in affected areas can expect the greatest smoke impacts overnight into the early morning hours of Aug. 9 and 10 and potentially through the weekend.

All residents in impacted areas are encouraged to monitor air quality regularly on EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map and limit outdoor exposure when smoke is visible or can be smelled.

The health department recommends residents that people in sensitive groups (children, elderly, and those with heart or lung disease) reduce outdoor activity and stay indoors. Officials said to keep all windows and doors closed, and maintain clean indoor air by avoiding vacuuming, lighting candles, frying food or smoking.
