The National Weather Service in Reno has issued weather watches and advisories for the holiday weekend. Slippery road conditions, as well as travel delays, are likely through Friday, November 23, 2018.
According to the weather service:
- Rain and snow will likely cause significant impacts to travel across the Sierra, above 7,000 feet, Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
- A significant wind event could cause disruptions to travel on Thursday and Friday.
Drivers are advised to carry chains and winter travel kits if driving at higher elevations.
Temperatures are high enough that snow is not expected on the valley floor. The city’s public works department is on standby in case snow plowing is needed.
“The City of Reno street system contains approximately 2,244 lane miles and is divided into 19 routes. Priority is given to arterial and collector streets along with school zones. Secondary streets are plowed after priority streets as resources become available,” said spokesperson Matt Brown.
