An exciting introduction to triathlons returns to the Truckee Meadows this spring and summer for youth ages 4 to 14. The City of Sparks, City of Reno, Washoe County and Carson City Parks and Recreation organizations are teaming up for the second year to offer the regional series.
The fun kicks off in Sparks on Saturday, May 19, 2018, which is also National Kids to Parks Day! A day of outdoor play celebrated by parks, cities and towns nationwide.
The Sparks event will feature a swim-bike-run format. The swimming portion will take place in the Alf Sorensen Community Center pool, 1400 Baring Blvd., followed by the bike and run courses just outside of the center. Multiple distances will be offered based on the age group of the triathlon participants. Races are not timed as the focus is to provide a triathlon experience in a FUN atmosphere. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. for all age groups.
Pre-registration for the triathlon in Sparks is required by May 10, at the Recreation Office, 98 Richards Way. The entry form is available online at www.cityofsparks.us. The entry fee is $35, which includes a T-shirt, race bag, and a participatory medal. Scholarship assistance is available for eligible households.
A pre-race training will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, to give participants a preview of the courses and a rundown of what to expect on race day. Race bags can be picked up at that time or at the Recreation Office, May 14-17, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Participants must provide their own bike and helmet. Helmets are mandatory.
