Registration Open for Area Thanksgiving Day Road Races

Several organized road races of varying distances are planned for Thanksgiving morning, and those who register early will save on entry fees.

Distances to pick from are as follows: 10K (6.2 miles), 8K (4.97 miles), 5K (3.1 miles), 2 miles, 1 mile; and for children, a half-miler.

The events are as scheduled:

SPARKS

The 19th annual Scheels Turkey Trot 10K run and 2-mile walk is set for 8:30 a.m. at Scheels All-Sports, 1200 Scheels Drive.

Entry fees are $25 until Nov. 16, $30 if registering Nov. 17-19, $40 if signing up Nov. 20-22, and $60 on Nov. 23. Partial proceeds go toward Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund.

In-person registration is accepted at the Sparks Parks & Recreation Department, 98 Richards Way, and at Scheels.

Packet pick-up is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 20-22 at Scheels in the second floor training room on the east side of the building.

Desert Sky Adventures hosts its annual Wobble Before You Gobble 5K and 10K runs at 9 a.m. at City Plaza, 10 S. Virginia St. Last year’s event attracted almost 700 entrants.

Entry fees are $40 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Children age 12 and younger can enter either race for $20. Proceeds benefit Children’s Cabinet.

Packet pickup is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at Eclipse Running, 3438 Lakeside Drive; and from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 at Children’s Cabinet, 1090 S. Rock Blvd.; or starting at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at City Plaza.

CARSON CITY

St. Teresa Avila Catholic School sponsors the Carson City Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 8K, 5K, and 1-mile runs at 8:30 a.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain St. A half-miler for children is also planned.

Entry fees are $30 through Nov. 15, $35 from Nov. 16-22, and $40 on Nov. 23. The children’s half-mile run is $15. Proceeds benefit F.I.S.H., Friends in Service Helping.

Packet pick-up is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Teresa School, 567 S. Richmond Ave.
