Weekly Art Fix (Nov. 17): ‘Decadence’ Reviewed Plus Events to Check Out

Date:

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It was a Saturday night in Reno and what to do? We have so many choices of what to do here in Reno. This evening I chose to see a one woman play and a high energy show in a classic casino showroom setting. First up was “Grounded” at Good Luck Macbeth, a powerful one woman play staring Ashley Marie James and directed by Joe Atack. This is a thoughtful story of a woman pilot who finds out that life takes turns unexpected. A simple set, one talented woman, compelling directing, and a cast of supporting characters bring this story to life. This is a very well-acted and wonderfully directed performance.

I walked away with a better understanding of the pressures of a military life and the emotional toll those pressures take on everyone involved.

Running through Saturday, November 28th

To cap my night off in a truly fitting manor I made my way Harrah’s and Sammy’s Showroom, a very classic old Reno showroom that will take you back 50 years. “Decadence” is just a bit of homage to the shows that graced the showrooms of Reno decades ago, but this show is indeed; not dated.

Fast paced and very sexy, this show will certainly get your adrenaline pumping. If you are looking for a fun night out with fast paced energy this is for you.

Playing through January 2, 2016.

The Odd Couple – Female Version at Reno Little Theater
Unger and Madison are at it again! Florence Unger and Olive Madison, that is, in Neil Simon’s hilarious contemporary comic classic: the female version of The Odd Couple. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit. The Pidgeon sisters have been replaced by the two Constanzuela brothers. But the hilarity remains the same.

Running from November 27th through December 20th
