A man wanted for a stalking charge was arrested today after a standoff with police in which the subject threatened to shoot himself.
Wilson Leano was located by the Reno Police Department’s (RPD) family crimes detectives this morning in south Reno at a storage shed facility. RPD attempted to serve him a temporary restraining order and arrest him for stalking and filing a false police report,.
“As they attempted to arrest him, defendant Leano locked himself inside his van, produced a handgun and pointed it to his head, threatening to kill himself,” said RPD in a press statement. “The detectives summoned assistance and RPD officers and Washoe County Sheriff’s (WCSO) deputies arrived to assist.
“The storage area and US 395 were closed off for three to four hours as members of the WCSO Special Weapons and Tactics team and the Crisis Intervention Negotiation Team attempted to negotiate Defendant Leano out of his vehicle.”
Leano was ultimately taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detention facility.
He was booked the following charges: obstructing and resisting with a firearm, stalking and filing a false police report.
