We still asked the question; Where were you? And most of us remember in vivid detail.
Last night I had the privilege to see a preview at the Bruka Theater of The Guys, written by Anne Nelson and starring Sandra Brunell Neace and William J McKay. I found myself drawn into the emotions that these two actors were offering and being moved back to that time in our history.
The story centers around a firefighter who lost many of his men on that fateful day and his struggles to write remembrances for the services and funerals to come. This role is played by William J McKay with deep emotion and sensitivity.
Sandra Brunell Neace plays the writer who has volunteered to help him with the obituaries he is charged to write. She plays her role with curiosity and caring driving us into the words that she puts together and the stories that she draws out of him.
These two actors play off of each other brilliantly in such a sensitive way that at times I felt myself tearing up remembering what had happened and imagining what it would be like to be in these characters positions. The stories she coaxes out of this man are vivid and emotional, with the stories we also see the emotional damage such an experience will do.
So I ask you, where were you on that fateful morning? And what do you remember of the days and weeks that followed?
With only two performances this is a show that I recommend highly: September 11 at 8 pm and again on September 12 at 2pm
