RENO, Nev. (May 4, 2015) — Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity held the first of its 2015 Strike Out Arthritis! lineup on Tuesday, April 21, kicking the season off with the Reno Aces. Over 200 people representing AOII and the University of Nevada, Reno as well as AOII family, friends, and other supporters of Strike Out Arthritis! helped raise $1,284. Money raised from this event will go to Alpha Omicron Pi’s Arthritis Fund, which supports arthritis research, education and awareness initiatives.

The nearby Reno-Tahoe Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi and the recently installed Delta Nu Chapter at the University of Nevada, Reno sold tickets and rallied the community around AOII and Strike Out Arthritis! Alpha Omicron Pi is partnered nationally with the Arthritis Foundation, and AOII’s collegiate and alumnae chapters in Canada also raise money for the Arthritis Society. As the leading cause of disability, Alpha Omicron Pi’s over 166,000 members are committed to raising money in support of groundbreaking medical research that may one day cure arthritis. Money raised by Alpha Omicron Pi also funds events, programming and educational resources that better the lives of people with arthritis during the search for a cure.

AOII has supported arthritis research, education and awareness since 1967 and launched the Strike Out Arthritis! campaign as a fundraising platform in 2001. The 135 collegiate chapters and over 160 alumnae chapters of Alpha Omicron Pi each hold chapter Strike Out Arthritis! events annually, which have raised over $3 million for arthritis to date. In 2010, Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity began planning Strike Out Arthritis! events with major and minor league baseball teams to further the reach of this initiative and bring communities together for the cause. In 2014, thanks to the efforts of AOII members and chapters internationally, the Fraternity raised over $560,000 through chapter and Fraternity Strike Out Arthritis! events, participation in Arthritis Foundation and Arthritis Society events, and general gifts made to the Arthritis Fund.

Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity has over 30 more events with professional baseball teams scheduled or in the works for the 2015 season.
