A roundup of the past week’s crime in the Reno area

burgulary-suspects-92x500-3536227-2138919Four men were arrested on November 26 in conjunction with a series of robberies around the Reno area. Two of the men were arrested during a routine traffic stop and agreed to speak with authorities, confessing to having committed multiple robberies in the Damonte Ranch area of Reno. One suspect also confessed to two counts of arson — one in Reno and one in Sparks. Search warrants were obtained and large amounts of stolen merchandise and firearms were recovered.

— On November 26, a suspect, believed to be starting fights with passersby in the area of West 2nd Street, committed battery on a peace officer who came to control the scene. Upon investigation, officers discovered the suspect had invaded a home earlier. The suspect was arrested on the charges of battery and home invasion.

— A report of a shooting in a park at West 1st Street sent officers to the scene on November 26. There were no injuries reported, but the Regional Gang Unit will be investigating.

— On November 27, a robbery was reported on Virginia Street. A suspect entered the business, chose some merchandise, and then handed the cashier a note saying he had a gun and was demanding money. The cashier handed over a currently undisclosed amount of money. No arrests have been made.

— A November 27 burglary on Sunshine Lane where the front door of a home was found open has not yet resulted in recovered goods or arrests.

— On November 28, officers responded to reports of a burglary on Vassar Street. While investigating, they discovered several other businesses had also been robbed recently. No amount has been disclosed for goods lost and no arrests have been made.

— An armed robbery was committed at Bob and Lucy’s Casino in the 1500 block of Oddie Blvd on Friday, November 28, around 11 a.m. Two men in dark hooded sweatshirts fled the casino with an undetermined amount of cash.

— On Friday, November 28, several individuals were arrested in connection with a string of robberies that have occurred in the Reno/Sparks area over the last several weeks. In conjunction with these arrests, some of the items stolen were recovered and it is believed that some local citizens may have unknowingly purchased the stolen goods from Craigslist. Both the Reno PD and the Sparks PD anticipate making more arrests as the investigation continues.

— Four women from Venezuela were arrested November 29 in conjunction with a counterfeit $100 bill ring. The bills were being passed at local casinos, through one of the women who happened to be a dealer at a casino in the Reno area. The women were arrested on counts of possession of a forged instrument, uttering a forged instrument, and burglary.

— There was a commercial burglary on South Virginia Street on November 29. Suspects were seen leaving the store without paying for their merchandise by employees. Two people were arrested a short time later during a stop on a vehicle matching the description the employees gave.

— On November 30, officers responded to reports of a party/disturbance on South Virginia. At least one person was suspected of having a firearm. Officers also conducted a stop on someone driving recklessly in a parking lot. Two people were arrested on charges of being intoxicated with a firearm, reckless driving, identity theft, and CCW.

— A suspect pulled alongside a woman walking her dog near Sutro and Wedekind and began complaining about the dog before shooting it in the leg. There is no description of the suspect available.

— A November 30 burglary on East 2nd Street resulted in the business’ door being broken open, the safe pried open, and an undisclosed amount of money being stolen. There are no suspect descriptions available.
