Moana Nursery staff certified UNR “Green Industry Professionals”

1471153_10152091101301535_1985156878_a-8329049-9062807MOANA NURSERY NEWS RELEASE – Moana Nursery proudly announces that six more teammates have successfully completed The University of Nevada Reno’s Cooperative Extension Green Industry Training program consisting of 24 hours of instruction on multiple subjects including: soils, potting mixes and fertilizers; integrated pest management and pesticide safety; pruning landscape plants, woody plant ID; water management and irrigation; sustainable turfgrass maintenance; plant diseases and first detector training; and,  insect identification. Ben Williams, Brian Eubanks, Briana McDowell, Dennis Kemph, Devon Johnson and Kyle Rich are officially Northern Nevada Certified Green Industry Professionals.

Since 1967, locally owned Moana Nursery has been serving the landscape and gardening needs of northern Nevada and the high desert from three locations in Reno/Sparks: 1100 West Moana Lane, 11301 South Virginia Street, and 7655 Pyramid Highway. Each full-service garden center is home to a Wild Birds Unlimited store, which is part of the original and largest franchise of backyard bird feeding and nature specialty stores. Moana Nursery also specializes in both residential and commercial landscape design and installation as well as an interior plant service which provides installation, maintenance and rentals and a seasonal color service offering unique, custom containers, seasonal plantings and maintenance.

Miriam Hodgman is originally from San Francisco. She previously was the communications coordinator for the largest hunger-relief organization in Sonoma County, California. She has a bachelor’s degree in American history, with a minor in American Indian studies, from San Francisco State University, and has a master’s degree in public administration from Sonoma State University. She enjoys training a variety of martial arts.
