Woman murdered in Sun Valley Monday identified

washoe_county_sheriffs_office_log-1844459-7757009The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed with the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office that formal identification and next of kin notifications have been completed on the deceased subject from Monday’s homicide investigation in Sun Valley.

The decedent is identified as Candice Elizabeth Weakland, age 40, of Sun Valley.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 5200 block of Carol Drive in Sun Valley. On arrival, they located a female victim on the ground outside the residence with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies subsequently located and detained John Richard Harding at the entrance to the residence.

Based on their investigation, Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Harding on open murder and other charges. He is being held in the Washoe County Detention Facility without bail.

This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information available for release at this time.
