Saddle-Trained Horses available for adoption on Saturday, October 19

blm_logo-300x261-9228009-2608284The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Nevada Department of Corrections are hosting the third of three annual saddle-trained horse adoption events in Carson City on Saturday, October 19, at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC) located at 1721 Snyder Avenue.

Thirteen wild horses from ranges on BLM-administered public lands in Nevada, Oregon, and California will be offered for adoption at the NNCC corrals. Public viewing begins at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a competitive bid adoption conducted by an auctioneer beginning at 10 a.m. The beginning bid on all horses is $150.
The horses range in age from three to five years and vary in weight and color. The horses are saddle-trained at the NNCC by inmates in the Nevada Department of Corrections program and receive at least 120 days of training.

Directions to NNCC:

Traveling south on Interstate 580, take exit 38 and turn left on Fairview Drive, make a right on South Edmonds Drive and then another right on Snyder Avenue, then  left into the NNCC. Traveling north on 395, turn right onto East Clearview Drive, then right to South Edmonds drive, and right again onto Snyder Avenue and left into the NNCC.

Potential adopters are asked to enter the NNCC from the north side and watch for signs and event personnel at the extreme south end of the facility directing event participants to the horse corrals and parking.

NNCC rules prohibit the public from wearing any blue clothing, blue jeans, tank tops or shorts at the auction. Also, please no cell phones, cameras or recording devices.
