SUBMITTED NEWS — As Nevada’s first sesquicentennial commemorative silver medallion reaches a near sell-out of the first mintage, additional mintages of the medallion have been approved for further pre-orders. The first production date has been set for Friday, Oct. 25, the observance of Nevada Day, at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, Nev.
“While demand has been overwhelming and we are nearing a sell-out of the first design of the sesquicentennial medallions for delivery before the holidays, it is the intent of the Nevada 150 commission to continue to fulfill these orders and allow anyone who wants to order the first of the four sesquicentennial medallions to do so through January 31, 2014,” said Kara Kelley, executive director of the Nevada 150 Commission.
Orders taken for the first mintage will be fulfilled before the 2013 holiday season. Orders taken from subsequent mintages will not be fulfilled until the first quarter of 2014. Plans to design and produce three additional medallions are underway.
In less than two weeks, the Legislative Gift Shop (LGS) has taken orders for nearly all of the medallions being produced from the 1,000 ounce bar of silver donated by and mined from Coeur Mining’s operation in Rochester, Nev.
Each one ounce silver piece containing the Nevada 150 design on one side and the official Nevada state seal on the other will be available to the public at $100.50 each. The sesquicentennial copper medallions have the same design as the first silver medallions and are also available for sale through the LGS at $15 each.
The medallions are available for purchase through the LGS website at https://www.leg.state.nv.us/app/lcbstore/a/default.aspx or in person at the LGS, 401 South Carson St., Carson City. No medallions will be available for sale the day of minting (Oct. 25) or through the Nevada State Museum or LGS during the Nevada Day weekend.
Sales of the commemorative medallions will help fund the Nevada 150 events and year-long celebration. Throughout the year, four different medallions will be released at different dates for purchase. For more information about Nevada 150, visit www.nevada150.org.
