RENO, Nev. – Nevada defensive end Brock Hekking was named to the first team of Phil Steele’ Midseason All-Mountain West Team that was announced this week.
A junior from Vacaville, Calif., Hekking leads Nevada in both sacks (4.0) and tackles for loss (7.5) through six games this season. He has 29 tackles on the year to go along with two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and an interception. He was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Hawaii.
Hekking was the lone Wolf Pack player selected for the first team but six others received second- or third-team honors from the publication.
Senior wide receiver Brandon Wimberly, senior tight end Kolby Arendse and senior tackle Joel Bitonio were all named to the second team, as was senior cornerback Markus Smith. On the third team, Nevada was represented by center Matt Galas and linebacker Jonathan McNeal.
