ST. VINCENT’S NEWS RELEASE

catholic-charities-1429065-4633515This year will mark the 59th consecutive year that John Ascuaga’s Nugget will provide holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day in our St. Vincent’s Dining Room. Both holidays bring in between 1,000 and 1,500 people each year, and the Nugget staff both funds and prepares the food. News of the casino’s sale brought up concerns of this tradition being discontinued, but leadership with John Ascuaga’s Nugget has reassured St. Vincent’s that the meals will continue.

“We will continue to provide these meals. The Ascuagas will be here at least through the first of the year, and we intend to continue this tradition,” says Lauren Garber, spokesperson for John Ascuaga’s Nugget.

Peter Vogel, executive director of Catholic Charities and the St. Vincent’s Programs, says  he’s relieved and grateful that the tradition will go on. “Those two holidays are very special days for our dining room clients. We are forever grateful to John Ascuaga’s Nugget, not only for the compassion they’ve shown to the hungry people of Northern Nevada, but for all of the wonderful community outreach they provide to other causes. The Ascuagas truly know what it means to be good stewards of the community we live in,” says Vogel.
