Vehicle versus scooter accident at North Virginia and Panther Drive

RPD NEWS RELEASE

At approximately 2 p.m. today a 31-year-old male rider of a 2002 Yamaha scooter veered across the southbound travel lanes of North Virginia Street just south of the intersection of Panther Drive.  While the rider was veering across the travel lanes he was struck by a southbound 2004 Pontiac Vibe.  The collision ejected the rider off of the scooter, and he is now in critical condition at a local hospital.  The driver of the Pontiac sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this accident.

The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident. Anyone with information in regards to this case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department Traffic Division at 334-2175 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
