TOUR DE NEZ NEWS RELEASE

The Mighty Tour De Nez returns for its 21st year as “America’s coolest race” and with a new title sponsor, The Stacie Mathewson Foundation.

“As I have friends who participate in the Tour De Nez and have seen how this event brings people from the community together, I realized that this would be a great event for The Stacie Mathewson Foundation to be a part of,” said Stacie Mathewson, founder and executive director of the foundation.

Founded in 2011, The Stacie Mathewson Foundation is focused on scholastically based recovery programs to help youth addicted to alcohol or drugs and is committed to erasing the social stigma associated with substance use disorders.

In addition, they fund local and national research studies providing evidence based recommendations, increasing the capacity of school based recovery programs.  The Foundation directly supports a Collegiate Recovery Program at The University of Nevada, Reno and offers counseling services, peer-to-peer emotional and academic support, on-and-off campus sober living accommodations and access to substance-free activities.

“The Mighty Tour De Nez is only made possible by our sponsors and I am proud to welcome The Stacie Mathewson Foundation as our newest title sponsor for this year’s event and look forward to working with Stacie and the foundation for years to come,” Bubba Melcher, executive director of the Mighty Tour De Nez said.

For Mathewson raising awareness of addiction among youth has been a personal mission for many years. Her son Josh first faced addiction in his early adolescence, and on Feb. 15, 2013, he suffered a fatal relapse.

“July 28, the day of this year’s Tour De Nez, would have been Josh’s 30th birthday.  I felt very strongly that helping gather the community for a great race and the opportunity to help raise awareness of addition, would be a great way to commemorate Josh,” Mathewson said.

Sponsors of this year’s race include title sponsors The Stacie Mathewson Foundation, and Silver Legacy and sponsors including City of Reno, IGT, Circus Circus, Nature’s Bakery, Hub Coffee Roasters, Nevada Commission on Tourism, Armstrong Teasdale, Bauserman Group, The Patagonia Outlet, Eldorado, Fearless Recovery Radio, Silver Sage Sports Performance, Parsons Behle & Lattimar, Sportif, Homewood Resorts, Audi Reno Tahoe and Sierra Water Gardens.
