SUBMITTED NEWS — While Hunger Action Month is still a few months off, Run on Tuna is starting to collect items now for a garage sale fundraiser it will be holding in September to help raise money to purchase cans of tuna. This is the third year Run on Tuna has made the commitment to help collect and donate cans of tuna in support of Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Hunger Action Month.
“We are so grateful to De De for her tireless support,” said Jocelyn Lantrip, marketing director for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “She has raised an amazing amount of tuna over the last two years and we are thrilled she is doing the drive again. Tuna is a great source of protein and we are always needing more for our clients. ”
De De Rosene, who started Run on Tuna in 2011 says, “This year I thought it would be fun to host a garage sale where people can either bring cash or cans of tuna which they can exchange for Run on Tuna Bucks to shop at the sale. Either way, it will help feed hungry people in our community.”
Anyone interested in donating gently used items for the garage sale, which will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 7 a.m. to noon at 350 Sunnyside Drive in Reno, can contact Rosene at (775)225-0814 or [email protected]. Items can be dropped off or pick up can be arranged.
Canned tuna, which is a great source of protein, is a food item the Food Bank of Northern Nevada always needs and often purchases to supply to their food clients.
Hunger Action Month is a national campaign of Feeding America which encourages communities to take an active role in ending hunger during the month of September. Food Banks all over the nation participate in events throughout the month.
