Hekking selected for All-Mountain West Preseason Team; Pack picked Fourth in West Division

LAS VEGAS – Junior Brock image001-2153580-9528985 and Nevada was picked for fourth place in the West Division, the conference announced at its preseason media event on Monday.
Hekking, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound junior from Vacaville, Calif., was a second-team All-Mountain West selection in 2012. He was fourth on the team and led the defensive front with 75.0 tackles. He led the team in both tackles for loss (10.0) and sacks (8.0). He was third in the Mountain West in sacks per game and tied for 13th in tackles for loss per game.
The preseason poll and All-MW team were selected in a poll of the league’s media.
Fresno State, received 39 first-place votes and a total of 243 points in the poll and was selected as the favorite to win the West Division. Boise State was picked to win the Mountain Division as they received 40 first-place votes, and earned a total of 245 points in a poll of media members.
San Diego State (181 points) was picked second in the West, narrowly above newcomer San Jose State (172 points). Nevada was fourth with 135 points, ahead of UNLV (71) and Hawaii (59).
On the Mountain side, Utah State was second, followed by Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State and New Mexico.
This season marks the first time in Conference history for divisional play. Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming make up the Mountain Division, with Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV comprising the West Division. The two divisional winners will meet in the inaugural MW Championship Game, which will be held Dec. 7 at the home stadium of the divisional champion with the highest BCS ranking.
Nevada will play all five of its West Division foes in 2013 along with three teams (Boise State, Colorado State and Air Force) from the Mountain Division.
