Children invited to science activities with Jim Barcellos of 4-H

growing-worms-300x225-9547419-5273462Join 4-H youth programs expert Jim Barcellos for a fun science experiment! Children ages 8 – 13 are encouraged to attend this free activity with their parents. Northern Nevada families are warmly invited to attend this Silver City class – one need not live in Silver City to attend.  Please reserve your spot in the class by calling Sara Ross of the Silver City Community Partners at 220-6955.

What Is the Experiment About? Barcellos will lead youth in a hands-on science project for youth ages 8 to 13. They’ll investigate soil science with a hydrogels (water retention granules) experiment.  Come prepared to get your hands dirty!

About the Instructor: Jim Barcellos serves on the advisory council for the Community Council On Youth, the Dialogue to End Childhood Hunger and Homelessness Committee and the Education and Prevention Task Force of the Partnership. He is the 4-H Youth Programs expert for the Carson region.

Funding: This activity is funded by University Cooperative Extension and hosted by Silver City Community Partners, a partner group of the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition.

Where and When: Thursday, July 18 at 10:30am at the Silver City Community Center/School House at 385 High Street in Silver City.

Who: Children ages 8-13 accompanied by their parents.  Families need NOT live in Silver City to attend. This class is limited to 15 children ages 8-13. Please RSVP Sara Ross at 220-6955.
