The Bison Fire in the Carson Valley of Northern Nevada is considered to be the largest the state has ever seen, burning more than 25,000 acres. The Reno Gazette Journal reports the Bison Fire is 40 percent contained with more than 1,000 firefighters battling the blaze sparked by lighting on Thursday, July 4.
Our deepest appreciation to all the Red Cross volunteers and staff who promptly responded to the need in opening a shelter last night. “Nevadans should be comforted to know the well trained team of the Red Cross is able to support our community during a disaster, like the Bison Fire, whenever the call arrives” said Clara Andriola, Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter Regional Chief Executive Officer.
On average, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to a residential fire every 48 hours, day and night. Volunteers are on call to respond to a home fire as well as wildfires 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapters extends our best to all the volunteers and staff who continue to assist those impacted by the Carpenter 1 Fire on Mount Charleston, ignited by a lighting strike on Monday, July 1.
All assistance provided by the Red Cross is an outright gift, made possible entirely by contributions from the caring citizens of Northern Nevada.
