The Aztecs swept the Wolf Pack earlier this season in San Diego. Current SDSU is three games ahead of the Pack in the MW standings with nine remaining.

FRIDAY NIGHT MATCHUP, SHIPLEY VS. CEDEROTH: Friday night’s pitching matchup is between two the top pitchers in collegiate baseball in Nevada’s Braden Shipley and SDSU’s Michael Cederoth. Shipley, a junior, is projected to be a high first round selection in the 2013 draft while the sophomore Cederoth is slated to be a top pick in 2014.

In the first meeting the Aztecs won 2-0 on Apr. 5 at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego. Cederoth struck out 14 Pack hitters and allowed just four hits in eight innings on the mound. Shipley tossed his first complete game of the season but was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in eight innings. He struck out five SDSU batters.

Shipley enters Friday’s game with a 6-2 record and 2.70 ERA. He has 76 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. Cederoth is 3-5 with a 3.41 ERA. His 85 strikeouts leads the Mountain West and has come in 74 innings on the mound.

They rank one-two in the MW in strikeouts and 10th and 25th nationally.
