SUBMITTED NEWS — Some of the premier “piston-powered” events in the West have made their home in the greater Reno area, and this summer they will be united in a season-long motorsports event calendar called Northern Nevada Motor Madness (abbreviated as “N2M2”).
Hot August Nights, Street Vibrations, Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing, the National Championship Air Races and a host of other events will highlight Northern Nevada as a world-class destination for horsepower-loving race fans, vintage car collectors, personal watercraft aficionados and air race spectators.
Northern Nevada Motor Madness will showcase the Reno region’s thriving “gearhead” events calendar, which has gained even more momentum in the last year. Reno’s Hot August Nights was recently chosen as the newest venue for one of four Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions in the world. The Reno Tahoe auction will be featured on 24 hours of national television coverage on The Speed Channel this year because of the new partnership with, “the world’s greatest collector car auction” company.
The Reno-Sparks area also hosted the inaugural Silver State Showdown last summer, part of the nationally televised Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series. The event will return to the Wild West Motorsports Park near Sparks this coming August.
“Northern Nevada already had the world-class events for fans of internal combustion,” said Chris Baum, president and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. “Northern Nevada Motor Madness is simply a way of cross-promoting what is already here to a larger regional and national audience.”
All of the Northern Nevada Motor Madness events will be marketed through a unified campaign. A centralized website with links to each event’s website, booths at each event to promote the entire series, and handout material will advertise the fact that Reno has a season’s worth of motorsports events on tap April through October.
“The N2M2 calendar will draw in destination visitors from Northern California, the Northwest, Utah, and across Nevada who may have been aware of one or two of Northern Nevada’s vehicular events, but did not know the full lineup the area offers,” said Baum.
“Reno Tahoe USA is unique among North America event venues,” said Baum. “You can desert race through rugged off-road terrain minutes from a metro area, walk through an auction of some of the world’s most expensive vintage cars, or see the world’s only remaining air race, all within a few mile radius.”
