CREATIVE COALITION OF MIDTOWN NEWS RELEASE – The Creative Coalition of Midtown (CCM) is organizing an all-day neighborhood clean-up on April 24, to prepare for Friday’s Block Party.
“We want to put our best foot forward on Friday,” said Angela Watson, owner of Black Hole Body Piercing and the event’s organizer. “Little things can make a big difference and this area has been perceived as a little rundown in the past, but things are changing and we want the community to see how inviting Midtown has become at our block party on April 26.”
Midtown businesses are encouraging each other and the community to come down and do some spring cleaning in their neighborhood. With an increase of vandalism and graffiti, the CCM is hoping by cleaning up the area they can discourage the careless behavior. Tim Carter from Carter Bros Ace Hardware has volunteered his time and vehicle to pick up overflow trash bags and larger items curbside from area businesses.
The CCM was formed in early January of this year, when founding members Amber Solorzano of Hold Steady Designs and Ron Rash of Aces Tattoo realized if they could unite the area they could create more opportunities for small businesses and local artists. The CCM empowers small businesses to nurture a creative culture and a united arts community in Midtown. The goal of the CCM is to provide businesses with creative tools to unite and build the arts culture in Reno. In only three months, the CCM has grown from just an idea to over 30 members.
