CREATIVE COALITION OF MIDTOWN NEWS RELEASE – With hopes of encouraging the community to explore the newly invented area of Reno, the Creative Coalition of Midtown (CCM) will be hosting a block party starting at 5:00 p.m., on Friday, April 26. With more than 30 stops, the family friendly event will highlight the Midtown area’s most creative businesses from art galleries and boutiques to tattoo studios and restaurants.
“The Midtown area has a lot of unique experiences to offer the community,” said Angela Watson, owner of Black Hole Body Piercing. “Our block party is going to give everyone a chance to see how this area has progressed in the last few years.”
Each business participating in the block party will host a unique mini event for the community to enjoy. For example, Midtown Salon will have face painting, Mandala Massage Supply & Apothecary will hold free classes on making massage oils, bath salts and salt scrubs, and Black Hole Body Piercing will have a body painting demonstration by make-up artist Edin Carpenter and Jenny O from A Salon 7. GourMelt Grilled Cheese Truck will join Caliber Salon, who will have a bounce house and an art opening. In addition to live music, food/drink specials, and art openings, every participant will be entered into a raffle for attending. The number of entries will increase with the number of locations visited during the block party. Participants are not required to be present to win.
The CCM was formed in early January of this year when founding members Amber Solorzano of Hold Steady Designs and Ron Rash of Aces Tattoo realized if they could unite the area they could create more opportunities for small businesses and local artists. The CCM empowers small businesses to nurture a creative culture and a united arts community in Midtown. The goal of the CCM is to provide businesses with creative tools to unite and build the arts culture in Reno. In only three months, the CCM has grown from just an idea to over 30 members.
