City of Reno to host Olympics-style competition for senior citizens

cityofreno-189x300-5617525-8968442The Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games is a program dedicated to promoting and implementing fitness programs and activities for people 50 years and older. The event takes place Feb. 4-14 at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino, Sky Tavern Ski Resort, Mt. Rose Ski Resort and the Rink on the River.

The games offer participants 30 individual and team competitions within 10 sport disciplines. Participants compete within age groups to win gold, silver and bronze medals. The sports include ice skating, hockey slap shot, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ski racing, table tennis, pickle ball, baggo, poker and bowling.

The Reno-Tahoe Senior Games will conclude on Feb. 14 with a Valentine’s Day dance. The dance will be held at Harrah’s and is free for registered participants of the Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games, $10 for non-participants.

The cost of participation in the Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games is $20 before Jan. 25 and $30 after Jan. 25. The participation fee includes the cost of the Reno-Tahoe Senior Games competition bib, entrance and dinner at the Valentine’s Day dance, and a Reno-Tahoe Senior Games t-shirt. In addition to the registration fee, each competition event has a $10 cost, except for cross country skiing which is $15.
