The University of Nevada swimming and diving team will travel to Davis, Calif., this week to meet the UC Davis Aggies in a dual meet at 2 p.m. on Friday.
“This will be our toughest test so far this season,” head coach Abby Steketee said. “UC Davis has a number of strong swimmers that will challenge us to be at our best throughout the event.”
In her first season at the helm of the program, Steketee has seen senior Mengjiao “Jojo” Mi be named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week for meets contested from Oct. 24-30. To date, Mi has won eight of the nine individual events she has entered. Alongside Gabby Guieb, Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn and Luiza Vieira, Mi has led Nevada throughout its first four events.
Head diving coach Jian Li You has put together another strong group of athletes in 2012-13, with juniors Grace Huang and Stephanie Hansen leading the way. Huang has been named the Mountain West Diver of the Week twice, earning the honor for meets contested from Oct. 24-30 and Nov. 5-11.
Nevada is coming off a 160.5-139.5 victory over Mountain West foe New Mexico at the Lombardi Pool on Saturday. The Wolf Pack is 3-1 in dual meets so far this season, with its only loss coming at Pacific in the first event of the year.
UC Davis is 3-2 in dual meets this season, boasting wins over Washington State, Loyola Marymount and San Diego. Two weeks ago, the Aggies bested LMU 151-11 and San Diego 167-96.
“I’m looking for our team to swim some of its best races of the season on Friday,” Steketee said.
Following its trip to Davis, the Pack will return to Reno to close out the Fall against Cal State East Bay on November 30 at 2 p.m.
