Jefferson, a junior from Visalia, Calif., leads the nation in rushing at 174.8 yards per game and also is tops in the country in scoring at 18.0 points per game. He tied an NCAA record and broke seven school and conference records last week when he scored seven touchdowns — six rushing — in a 69-24 win at Hawai`i.

This week, Jefferson was added to the Watch List for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top running back.

On Thursday, Jefferson was one of 14 players nationally added to the Watch List for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the “outstanding collegiate football player in America.”

Jefferson has four straight 100-yard rushing games to start 2012 and his 247-yard effort against Northwestern State is the second-best output to date in the FBS.
