Professional development courses offered by Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno provide university-quality educational opportunities to build your career and skills in a wide range of management and business topics, to keep on the leading edge of the latest trends and industry-specific issues and to hone existing talents for career advancement.
The following noncredit courses may be taken independently and require no formal admission to the University. Courses are offered on the main campus at the University of Nevada, Reno, or at the University’s Redfield Campus in south Reno unless noted otherwise.
Select courses as noted have been approved or are pending approval for 6-40 recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR or GPHR (Professional, Senior Professional or Global Professional in Human Resources) recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). “Social Media Marketing Certificate and Short Courses” – This four-course, 33-hour professional development certificate program offered during spring 2012 provides in-depth, leading-edge content and an opportunity to develop and demonstrate mastery of social media/inbound marketing as an essential component of successful business operations, offered by Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Held through May 2012 on select evenings, course options are available from which to build the full four-course Social Media Marketing Certificate, or to be taken individually. “Graphics Professional Series” – More than a dozen introductory and advanced graphics software and photography short courses during Spring 2012 offer opportunities to build a solid knowledge base and hone existing skills ranging from the basics of using a digital camera to hands-on training in the latest versions of the Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) and Creative Suite 4 (CS4) software packages including, Adobe Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom and more. “Gaming Management Weeklong Courses”- Comprehensive weeklong courses during spring/summer 2012 update and enhance management tools and techniques unique to the gaming industry, including: promotional strategies and ROI; financial accounting; table games operations; slot operations; business analytics and surveillance management, offered by Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. “Conducting an Effective Workplace Investigation” – This advanced two-session senior HR professional development course will develop skills for conducting prompt, fair and thorough workplace investigations, making sound decisions and minimizing legal risks when confronted with workplace violence issues, sexual harassment complaints and other serious workplace behaviors and disputes, offered by Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno.
