ELKO, Nev – The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District, invites you to travel back in time and see first hand the experience of preparing for a months-long journey into the unknown. On Wednesday, April 25,at 7 p.m., travel back to 1846 and “Get Ready to Go” with a free one-act play at the California Trail Interpretive Center.
Frank and May Ann Tortorich play Sylvester and Anne Mae Hale who are preparing to travel west on the Overland Trail. Dressed in period costumes, the Tortorichs discuss their preparations for the five-month journey to Oregon. Discover what lay in store for them as they plan and begin their journey.
The Tortorichs are Charter and Life Members of Oregon California Trail Association. Frank was the first elected President of the California- Nevada Chapter in 1986. Both have served many years in various capacities.
The California Trail Interpretive Center, operated by the Bureau of Land Management, is located eight miles west of Elko, at Hunter exit 292. The California Trail Interpretive Center is currently closed in preparation for the Grand Opening which will take place on June 2, 2012 in conjunction with the 9th Annual California Trail Days.
