The city of Reno is happy to announce Fred Turnier as the director of community development.
Turnier will begin his employment with the city of Reno on May 21 after serving as the interim city manager and community and economic development director for the city of Fernley. Turnier previously worked for the city of Reno as the planning manager from October 2003 to December 2005.
Turnier comes to the city with over 17 years of public and private development experience with extensive knowledge and experience in community building and program implementation.
“Fred has strong operational, financial and project management skills along with diverse land development, planning/permitting, strategic planning and executive management skills,” advises City Manager Andrew Clinger. “His knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the Community Development Department.”
Turnier earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also holds National Certification in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
The City of Reno community development director position was left vacant when Bill Thomas was promoted to assistant city manager in February.
